Experimental analysis of true left-handed behaviour and transmission properties of composite metamaterials

چکیده
We report the true left-handed transmission of a composite metamaterial (CMM) consisting of periodically stacked split-ring resonator (SRR) and wire elements. The negative permeability (m < 0) gap is demonstrated explicitly by comparing SRR and closed-ring resonator structures. We confirm experimentally that the plasma cut-off frequency of the CMM is determined by the combined dielectric response of SRR and wire elements, and it is much lower than that of the wire-only medium. This is crucial to identify the left-handed transmission bands of the CMM.We further investigate the effect of intralayer and interlayer disorder on the transmission spectrum of CMM arising from misaligned fabrication and stacking of the SRR layers. We found that the intralayer disorder affects the m < 0 gap of SRRs and the left-handed transmission band of CMM significantly, whereas the SRR transmission is rather immune to interlayer disorder. # 2005 Elsevier B.V. Miniaturized High-Pass Filter Based on Balanced Composite Right-Left Handed Transmission Line Using Meander Spiral Complementary Split Ring Resonators
In this paper, a compact high-pass filter (HPF) with a sharp rejection response based on the balanced composite right-left handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) concept is proposed. A series LC resonator using an interdigital capacitor and meander lines is designed. Also, a meander spiral complementary split ring resonator (MSCSRR) is used to realize the parallel LC resonator. The high-pass filt...
متن کاملExperimental observation of true left-handed transmission peaks in metamaterials.
We report true left-handed (LH) behavior in a composite metamaterial consisting of a periodically arranged split ring resonator (SRR) and wire structures. We demonstrate the magnetic resonance of the SRR structure by comparing the transmission spectra of SRRs with those of closed SRRs. We have confirmed experimentally that the effective plasma frequency of the LH material composed of SRRs and w...
متن کاملPassive Diplexers and Active Filters based on Metamaterial Particles
Composite transmission lines are one of the main developments in the increasingly popular field of electromagnetic metamaterials, artificial electromagnetic structures with both negative electric permittivity and magnetic permeability (Caloz & Itoh, 2005). These structures present a backward wave or left-handed (LH) propagation instead of the conventional right-handed one. The first experimenta...
متن کاملGiant Goos-Häenchen Shift of a Gaussian Beam Reflected from One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Containing Left-Handed Lossy Metamaterials
We perform a theoretical investigation on the Goos-Häenchen shift (the lateral shift) in one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPCs) containing left-handed (LH) metamaterials. The effect was studied by use of a Gaussian beam. We show that the giant lateral displacement is due to the localization of the electromagnetic wave which can be both positive and negative depending on the incidence angle o...
متن کاملSuppression of left-handed properties in disordered metamaterials
We study the effect of disorder on the effective magnetic response of composite left-handed metamaterials and their specific properties such as negative refraction. We show that relatively weak disorder in the split-ring resonators can reduce and even completely eliminate the frequency domain where the composite material demonstrates the left-handed properties. We introduce the concept of the o...
